In 2004, Robby the
Robot was inducted into the Robot
Hall of Fame.
In 2005 he
appeared along with the B9 (Lost in
Space robot)
in a television commercial for an Australian
bank.
Robby's voice was
provided by Marvin Miller who did over 100 projects.
|
|
|
The
"Lost in Space" B9 Robot was mostly used in the
Irwin Allen
TV series and several specials. Robby however has made
numerous appearances over the years in several movies and
TV shows.
|
 |
In
1960, the "Lost in Space" Robot cost the TV
Studio $75,000 to create and weighs upwards of 200 pounds;
2 Robot suits were created for the show. For the first three episodes, movement was
accomplished by an actor walking inside the Robot. This
became too difficult, so whenever a scene required
movement, an actor would carry the upper portion of the
Robot on his back and the director would shoot the action
from the Robot's legs up. Sometimes tracks were laid down
and the entire Robot was manually pulled by workers
off-camera. |
|
The voice of the "Lost in
Space" Robot was provided
by
Dick
Tufeld, a popular
freelance announcer in
Hollywood. Mr. Tufeld also
did the
Robot’s voice for the
feature film version of Lost
in
Space released in 1998.
|
|
 |
|
Through a special arrangement with B9 Creations,
we were able to get
Mr. Tufeld to record customized
lines and phrases for
our B9 Robot. |
