So, we
have all this great stuff, now what?
Once
we determine that your school or council will be getting a new
High-Tech
Productions.com Science & Technology Center, you will start
to receive equipment, supplies and displays for the center. It is up
to the individual center to set everything up and maintain it.
We
have found that it works best to group similar items together and
place them in separate areas of the building. For example, most of the
centers have a computer section, a weather section, a nature area,
etc.

You
should also set up one or more areas for classroom instruction,
lectures & demonstrations. If possible, place a computer in each
section with that areas software already loaded.
Another idea for your
Science Center would be to start a free loaner program for the video
tapes, CD-ROM's & DVD's that each center has. This could
work well for the Students and Scouts as well as the teachers and adult leaders.
 |
Once the center is
completed, it's time to announce it to the rest
of the community. Your school or council should mail announcements to all
local Scout Troops as well as send out press releases to
local newspapers, radio and TV stations, schools, etc. |
|
If you have a
school or council newsletter and/or web site,
make
sure to mention it there also. The more publicity,
the better.
|
 |
We suggest that you also have an official "Grand
Opening" for the center and invite local dignitaries,
parents, high
ranking Scouts, the
press, etc. (At the Grand Opening of the
Camp Kunatah/TMR Science Center, we had the local radio station, (WSUL)
broadcasting live from the camp all day and each Scout that
attended received a Science Center Pad, Pen & T-Shirt). |
 |
You
can even start a campaign to gather more
items for the Science & Technology Center, (computers, software,
nature items, etc.).
Each center is also invited to visit the Science & Technology
Centers at other schools & camps. You can share ideas and suggestions with
each other and even swap items from center to center.
We
also have put together a "Touring
Space Exhibit" which is available Free of Charge to any
of the Science & Technology Centers.
|
One
of the things we send to each Science Center is a complete
Digital Weather Station. You can easily post the current weather
conditions on your school, troop, camp or council's web site.

We have
also provided each center with a complete
NASA CD-ROM & DVD
Educational library
and
an extensive
assortment of Educational
Video Tapes

As
you can tell from all of the links on the left, this web site has plenty to
offer. We suggest you explore the different links and use them at
the centers to start new programs and plan exciting activities.
Our goal is to plant the seed of learning. It's up to you
to
continue this project and make it the best possible.

A
word on computers.
From time to time we get used computers donated to us for the
centers. We HIGHLY recommend that they be re-formatted prior
to use.
